Rough Cut - Miss Miller

Rough cut
Why is a rough cut important to consider?
A rough cut is important to consider as it gives us a accurate perspective of what our thriller sequence will look like if we decided not to make any alterations. A rough cut is also important as it gives our audience a clear view of what our thriller final thriller clip will be like, therefore they will be able to give us accurate criticism of what we can improve on and overall make our thriller better and more enjoyable for our audience to watch. Rough cuts are important as it highlights to us as a group anything that we have missed out on and need to include, this is vital as our thriller may not be what we planned if we miss out some aspects.

Why is it important to consider audience feedback?
It is important to consider audience feedback as it will demonstrate what our target audience will think about our thriller and this will give us an accurate perspective of our thriller clip so far. It will help us as a group to decide what we can improve on and change as the audience who watched our clip will have specified what exactly we can improve on. This will overall make our thriller a better sequence than before that our audience will enjoy it more as the audience has contributed what they think will make it more enjoyable for them to watch. This will therefore make our target audience more interested in whats happening in the thriller as people in their age group have contributed ideas.

How did we collect our audience feedback?
We collected our audience feedback by preparing a short PowerPoint presentation on what our narrative was for our thriller sequence, what our inspirations were and why we decided to include these aspects especially, the characters in the clip and why we were using particular types of people and the effect of using this. We then presented this PowerPoint to an audience, we then created a rough cut of our thriller clip, this was just a rough representation of what our thriller was going to look like and uploaded it onto youtube. We then showed the audience our rough cut and they filled out a questionnaire about what they saw, they told us what we could improve on, what we done well and what they think we would get if we submitted the clip as it was.

What feedback did we receive?
Some of the audience feedback that we received noted that we should make a clearer narrative as some of our audience didn't clearly understand what was going on at all times of the clip. This therefore led them to become uninterested in what's happening which is why they highlighted to us that this is something that we could improve on. Something else which our audience said we could improve on was the fact that some of our camera shots were a bit shaky, therefore they said that we should improve the steadiness of the shots. This will make our thriller more authentic. Our rough cut included some dialogue, but our audience thought that we had included too much as they said it made the narrative more confusing therefore suggested that we reduced it. The last criticism that was made was that we should use a wider range of editing styles, this was something we hadn't included much off as we hadn't finished editing therefore we 100% agreed with what was said and that we needed to work on it.

How will the feedback we have received help us to finalise our thriller opening sequence?
The feedback we received gave us ideas on which we could add and change to our thriller sequence whilst finalising it. Some of the criticism given to us  made us realise that we had a few problems with our thriller that we needed to change. We overcame the problem of making our narrative clearer by re-filming the parts that didn't portray the storyline very well, this overall made our thriller much more clearer and easy to understand for our audience. When re-filming to make our narrative clearer, we made sure that we varied the shots and made sure that they weren't shaky at all by using the tripod. Also when we were re-filming we reduced the amount of dialogue used which made our thriller more simpler and much more clearer which added to the enigma. Finally whilst editing, we made sure we used a variety of different editing styles in our thriller which helped with the transition between different shots which made our thriller run more smoothly as the changing of shots aren't so obvious which is consequently more enjoyable for our audience to watch.

  1. Good start but this needs to be finished

    1) Include your feedback (+ve and -ve)
    2) State what changes you will make and why
    3) Summary on how this has helped you improve your sequence etc.

  2. You have included your negative feedback and stated how you made changes to your sequence; however, you could elaborate on how you made these changes to show a better understanding of conventions etc.
    Include positive feedback
