Production Roles
People need to be allocated specific production roles when creating a film as it gets all of the group involved as everyone will have something to do. This will motivate the group to accomplish the best film that they can create as they want to excel in their specific role. Spreading out the different production roles within the group takes the pressure of one person doing all of the work and to make it a group effort therefore making sure that everyone has something to do and not left with nothing to be doing. This will also allow a specific person to add detail and to focus on a specific part of production. The main roles that are vital for a film include the producer, directors, actors, director of photography (cameraman), music producers, screenplay writer, MES ccoordinators and editors. As a group we decided who would take on each production role and why. We based this the role on their individual skills, who would fit the best role and contribute the most the the role.
The roles:
Producer- the role of the producer is to prepare and supervise the making of the film. It is their job to make sure everything is going well and decides the setting for the film. Also they should make sure everything is running smoothly in the group for example, making sure everyone is happy with what role they are doing and making sure people know what to do.
Director- the role of the director is to contribute and advise when there are any problems with following the order of the storyboard when filming, they would then put their ideas forward and therefore direct them in what they should be doing. The directors role is to also guide the actors in behaving in a specific way whilst filming, this is to portray a particular emotion that the director wants them to display according to the storyboard.
Actors- the actors role is to portray to the audience what is happening in the scene by connecting with them and telling them vital information. The actors play a large role of engaging with the audience and creating relationships with them bringing out emotions they want the audience to be feeling.
Director of photography- the role of the director of photography is to be in charge of all the shots that are taken whilst filming.
music producers- the role of the music producer is to be in charge of all of the music for the whole film, this includes any soundtrack, non diagetic sound, diagetic sound, parallel and contrapuntal.
screenplay writer- the role of the screenplay writer is to decide and write what is going to happen in the film and has the job of writing the script for the actors.
MES coordinators the role of the MES coordinator is choosing and deciding all elements of Mes-En-Scene are appropriate to the film, these include choosing costumes, makeup, iconography, lighting, the characters facial expressions and the positioning of characters within a frame.
Editors- the role of an editor is to put together all of the shots we have taken and to delete any unneeded footage that is irrelevant to our thriller and not needed. Then they are to edit the shots to make them flow from one to another to grab the audience's attention and to create suspense from the way the film is edited.
Our thriller:
We decided that Charley would be the MES coordinator and the editor. We chose Charley to do the role of editing as she is the most skilled in editing as she is the most experienced in editing films as she took media for GCSE and edited some footage then. We thought this would benefit our thriller the most as it would save a lot of time than letting another group member take the time to learn how to use the editing software. Charley would be the MES coordinator as the editing role is also shared with myself, leaving Charley with not much else to do therefore she agreed to take on the second role also. Guneet would be the producer. We came to this conclusion on who we thought would take the role on efficiently and do the best job as he is good at planning things and was eager to take on the job. This would benefit our thriller film the best as having someone who is enthusiastic to the job will contribute the most to the role.I would take on the role of director and editor aswell as Charley as editing is a large role and would be unfair if one person took on this role by themselves therefore we will equally balance out the editing roles between us. I am also going to be directing the film as i am most confident and have the clearest idea of what we are trying to achieve, this will benefit our thriller as we will be more efficient with someone who has a clear understanding of the narrative. Emma would take on the role of sorting out the music for our thriller, this would include adding a soundtrack to cover the whole of our thriller, diagetic, non diagetic, off screen, on screen, parallel and contrapuntal sound. Emma has this job as she has the most experience in adding music to clips and would therefore make our thriller the most professional as possible. Erika would be the writer as she is best suited for the role as she was eager to take on this job and would therefore take this role seriously and therefore contribute the most to the role. Holly would be the co producer as she co producer as she will be assisting Gunneet as being a producer is a large role with a lot of responsibility so therefore Holly will help out Gunneet and share the jobs and take the time to do the best they can.
You have explained why people were allocated specific roles and explained the purpose of spreading out jobs evenly to produce a better sequence. You have mentioned other people in your roles? These are only to be used in your credits if they are you names and you need to say who was actually allocated these roles within your group.
ReplyDelete1) Make sure you mention all of the roles allocated amongst the THREE members of your group
2) Provide an analysis of each person, stating what they did well/could have improved on and why
3) Include a summary pin pointing any issues you came across and how they were resolved as well as review of how you found allocating each person a role beneficial with the production of your sequence
